Now I still don't but have them installed:) I had to use SGD1953's tip and do 'sudo rm -rf /.npm' before installing npm. So, go into the Utilities directory and start the program called Terminal. To change up two directories - type ls and you'll see the tmp directory listed - type cd tmp to change into the temp directory and ls again will list the files in there. Typing ls -al will show files that have a name starting with a dot.
node.js allows you to run javascript in the Terminal as appose to a regular browser which makes for a modern workflow in web development, with both node.js installed and a package manager called npm (Node Package Manager) also installed, which can manage other packages that work with node.js, one of the main ones being gulp.jsfor a web development workflow.
To install node.js https://graphicsenergy689.weebly.com/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard-for-intel-pc.html. on macOS Mojave, Sierra (and earner OSX versions) you can download a pre-compiled binary package which makes a nice and easy installation. Head over to http://nodejs.org/ and click the install button to download the latest package. Either version is Ok, if you are new to it best to use the recommended version.
Install the package from the .dmg by following along the install wizard which will install both node and npm, npm is Node Package Manager which allows for installs of additional packages for node.js.
At the end of the install you are prompted to make sure that /usr/local/bin is in your path, double check you have it by running in the Terminal:
After install check it was ok by entering in the command line node which will open a node javascript session:
To exit the node.js session just hit ‘control’ + ‘c’ twice.
If you have an earlier version of node you can just download the latest version and install to upgrade it and it will over write the previous version.

I have a new MacPro running 10.5.7. After installing a program called Epocrates which has an auto-update feature, my console is filled with log messages from cron into mail in the Unix environment as follows:
Subject: Cron <xxx@xxx> /Users/xxxx/Applications/Epocrates AutoUpdate/cronEpocratesConduitReplacement > /Users/xxxx/Applications/Epocrates AutoUpdate/EpocratesLogConduitReplacement_Cron.txt

cat: /tmp/runagentMac.out: No such file or directory
(I deleted the username with xxx in the posted message)
/tmp is a link to /private/tmp
lrwxr-xr-x@ 1 root admin 11 Feb 7 14:29 tmp -> private/tmp
and private/tmp is rwx for owner, group, and world
The company tells me to change the permissions of /tmp using chmod as follows:
chmod 777 /tmp
After changing to root using su, I do this, and the permissions do not change. Attempting to change just the write privileges also fails. No error message, no alerts, it just doesn't change.
Disk utilities reports:
6/2/09 11:37:56 AM Disk Utility[25849] Permissions differ on 'private/tmp', should be drwxrwxrwt , they are drwxrwxrwx .
But repairing permissions does not fix the problem.
Is there some new protection on the /tmp directory?
